The Rise of the Agents & the Intelligent Future : AI Conference

“Don’t panic: AI is coming.”

That was the opening line from Mark Hinkle’s keynote—and it set the tone for what turned out to be an electrifying day of AI insights, innovation, and inspiration at the All Things Open AI Conference in Raleigh, NC.

From GenAI and LLMs to AI agents and observability, the sessions reflected the zeitgeist of a new era in technology. As a passionate AI enthusiast and someone deeply engaged with the future of artificial intelligence, I walked away with profound insights and a reinforced belief: we’re not just witnessing change—we’re shaping it.

Key Takeaways: What’s Here, What’s Coming

Let’s dive into key takeaways from this amazing conference and what it means for developers, entrepreneurs, and AI leaders alike.

Mark Hinkle’s Keynote: “DON’T PANIC: AI IS COMING – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to AI”

With wit, humor, and a nod to sci-fi classic Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (yes, he referenced the famous “42” from Star Wars—don’t @ me on the universe crossover!), Mark Hinkle painted a panoramic view of the AI landscape. He urged us to embrace AI’s rapid growth—not with fear—but with curiosity and preparation. His call to action was clear: AI is not the enemy—it’s a force multiplier. As we stand at the edge of the AI frontier, we need to equip ourselves with knowledge, build communities, and contribute to the evolution.

🤖 Sheng Liang: “Don’t Just Talk to AI, Do More with AI”

Sheng Liang’s keynote shifted gears from theory to tangible productivity gains. He showcased real-world examples of AI agents, including Obot, to demonstrate how GenAI can transform both professional workflows and personal tasks. His message was powerful: AI is not just a chat interface—it’s a co-pilot that can help us do more, faster, and smarter. Sheng’s talk opened up exciting possibilities around automation, optimization, and intelligent decision-making through LLMs.

🌍 Sriram Raghavan: “Artificial Intelligence Needs Community Intelligence”

Sriram Raghavan from IBM delivered a stirring keynote that focused on the importance of community-driven AI. He emphasized how open source contributions, model sharing, and collaborative tooling are the backbone of sustainable AI innovation. Sriram’s talk highlighted IBM’s work in democratizing AI through open models and tooling. His message: True AI progress needs collective intelligence and open collaboration.

📊 Ben Heller (Google): Prioritizing and Evaluating GenAI Use Cases

Ben Heller delivered one of the most practical and impactful sessions of the day. His framework for evaluating GenAI use cases is something every AI user—whether beginner or advanced—should internalize. He emphasized value-driven development, where use case prioritization is based on impact, feasibility, and scalability. A must-watch talk for anyone looking to make real-world GenAI investments.

🧬 Adam Sullivan (LabCorp): Accelerating GenAI Business Value

From the enterprise trenches, Adam Sullivan shared how LabCorp is leveraging GenAI to drive business transformation. His session was a case study in innovation at scale, showing how industries like healthcare are embracing AI head-on to deliver better services, faster.

🎬 Ben Ilegbodu (Netflix): Real-World Impact with GenAI

Ben Ilegbodu brought creativity to the spotlight, showing how “sneaky” use of GenAI in daily workflows can deliver real results. From content generation to research, his examples demonstrated how small AI integrations can lead to massive productivity gains. His session reinforced that not every AI use case needs to be enterprise-grade—sometimes, it’s the simple hacks that deliver the most impact.

🔍 Wade Moore: Observability in AI Systems

In just 7 minutes, Wade Moore ignited the discussion on a critical but overlooked topic: AI observability. His session explored monitoring, explainability, and trust in AI systems—all essential for responsible AI deployment. As GenAI scales, observability will be the linchpin that ensures AI systems are accountable, secure, and efficient.

🧠 Brandon Mathis: Coding with AI – Revolution or Evolution?

Brandon Mathis took us on a journey through 80 years of computing history, drawing a line from early computing pioneers to today’s GenAI revolution. His Ignite talk left the audience buzzing with excitement, reminding us that every great leap starts with a single idea.

✈️ Brent Laster: AI Agents Working Together

Brent Laster wrapped up with a hands-on session on orchestrating LLMs through AI agents. From finding flights to booking them, he demonstrated how multi-agent systems can collaborate and deliver organized, meaningful outcomes. This is the future of AI-powered task automation, and it’s here.

🙌 Special Thanks

A huge thank you to Todd Lewis, Mark Hinkle, Sachin Solkhan, Ben Heller, and all the amazing speakers, volunteers, and advisors who made this phenomenal event possible. The energy, insights, and community spirit were unmatched.

The Future of GenAI

As someone deeply invested in technology and alternative investments through Kubera Capital, I see GenAI and LLMs not just as tools but as transformational forces that will redefine how we live, work, and invest.

Whether it’s AI-powered startups, real estate automation, or decision intelligence in private equity, the integration of GenAI agents into business workflows will drive exponential value creation. The future belongs to those who can leverage intelligence, community, and capital together.

This conference reaffirms my belief that the convergence of AI, open-source, and venture innovation is the next frontier for both impact and wealth creation.

I walked away with more excitement for the future of AI and what’s ahead of us.

I would paint the vision of the AI future:

  • AI agents will become digital teammates, not just tools.
  • Open source AI will drive inclusive and rapid innovation.
  • Observability, governance and ethics will define trustworthy AI adoption.
  • Small wins with GenAI in everyday life will pave the path to enterprise impact.

This is the decade of AI, and those who embrace it, contribute to it, and innovate within it will define what’s next.

If you’re excited about the future of AI and exploring partnerships in ventures, innovation, or investments, let’s connect! I’m always looking to collaborate with bold thinkers, builders, and visionaries.
